What to Do if Your Employer Says No When You Ask For a Raise
Friday, May 16, 2008
You had stated before I should do an ROI worksheet to obtain the raise I need during these difficult times. My employer liked it but said that they just couldn’t afford it at this time. Is there anything else I can do to ask for a raise and get it?
Absolutely. Ask your employer if they have any pressing projects that would result in the company making or saving more money after its completion. If so, ask to take the project on (or a piece of it) and see if they would be willing to pay a bonus upon the project’s completion. Once again, you can create an ROI (return on investment) worksheet to highlight what the company would be getting from your work. Make sure you are willing to do this project in addition to your current responsibilities. You want your employer to feel that the value you are adding is well worth the price they will pay once the project is complete.
