Recruitment Strategy for Finding Good Candidates

Friday, August 08, 2008

I have worked at a company that has had very little turnover in a while.  However we continue to grow at a fast rate each year.  Because of that I am having problems finding good employee candidates at the middle manager level and above.  What can you suggest?

To handle your immediate problems I would look at several sources and develop a recruitment strategy for each opening.  However, it sounds like this is an ongoing problem that can be handled easily by doing some pre-succession planning.  When companies grow they typically will look for outside help because their internal employees were hired to do the particular job they are currently in.  Often these folks are not given the training or groomed for a career.  If your company has a growth strategy and anticipates its needs for the next three to five years, candidates can be identified that have the potential to reach those needs with the proper grooming.  This philosophy will not only allow you to build your own talent pool within your company, but it will also build morale as employees begin to see a career path within the company.
