Difficult Time Finding a Job Even with Your Skills and Experience?

Friday, August 22, 2008

I am a senior executive and was recently severed after successfully merging our company with a larger, out of town firm.  I have been successful at all levels of a company but am having a difficult time finding a job.  What can I do?

The first thing you need to remember is that you are at the top of the proverbial business “food chain”.  In Baltimore there are very few large companies left that are not currently grooming their own internal employees for executive level roles.  However, that doesn’t mean you cannot still find work as an executive.  Many companies are now looking at interim executives as a solution to a growing problem of not having enough time, talent, manpower or resources to complete projects on their “to do” list.  The executives would work on a project basis (like a consultant) but would be paid an hourly rate (like a temp).  Sometimes, an interim executive can turn into a full time employee if they are proving themselves to be invaluable.  Several professional recruiting firms staff these types of roles and would be a good place to start looking for this type of work.  In fact I may know of at least one I could refer you.
