Hire the Best Person – Tips and Advice
Thursday, January 21, 2010
I am looking to hire the best person I possibly can for critical position within my company. I know of the perfect person but they are very entrenched in their current company. Is there any way to entice them?
Often, many companies are looking for the perfect person for their “critical” positions but either aren’t willing or don’t understand what it will take to obtain that person’s services. The first thing that you should do is have a lengthy conversation with your ideal employee candidate and find out what makes him or her tick. Understanding what they like about their job, as well as their challenges, struggles and frustrations is highly important in formulating how to entice someone to leave a situation which they seem to be content in. Once you have identified likes and dislikes ask the million dollar question, “If you were to ever consider leaving your current employer what would the opportunity look like?” Often you’ll find that what you thought was the biggest “carrot” actually has lesser importance in the candidate’s list of needs. If the opportunity you have is ideal and your company can meet the candidate’s requirements, you now have ample amount of information to allow you to create a pitch for the candidate’s services.
