Expertise

Mark Tootsey is a CPA with over 13 years experience in the recruiting and staffing industry. He brings a track record of success in the start-up and development of new markets to Stephen James Associates. Tootsey’s previous roles in the industry include Vice President of Washington DC Metro operations of A.J Burton Group. Following the sale of A.J. Burton Group to Spherion Corporation, he led the search and staffing operations for Spherion’s Washington DC Metro area Professional Service Group.

Mark has been involved in the start-up and development of several entrepreneurial ventures since leaving Spherion in 1999 and joining Stephen James Associates in 2006 to include a golf instruction company that culminated in an IPO, an online recruiting website that concluded with the sale to a national corporation, a real estate brokerage franchise, and a residential mortgage business.

Mark started his career with the Big 4 public accounting firm KPMG, and garnered Fortune 50 corporate experience at PepsiCo prior to joining Stephen James Associates CEO, Carl A.J. Wright, at A.J. Burton Group in 1989.

Community Involvement

Tootsey is a member of the board of directors of the charitable organization Community Bridges. Community Bridges empowers girls in Montgomery County, MD to discover their unique identity, voice, and potential through leadership development, academic support, and enrichment. Tootsey is Chairman of the Finance Committee at First Baptist Church of Gaithersburg, MD. At First Baptist Church he has served on the facilities committee, was nominated to be a deacon, and worked in partnership with the St. Rose of Lima Church furniture program. He also was nominated to serve as a board member of the Washington DC chapter of the American Heart Association.

Tootsey previously served as the Firm Liaison Committee Chairman and member of various other committees for the Maryland Association of CPA’s.
